Yellowstone NP is one of the most visually compelling places I have ever been to. It is an everchanging landscape that invites you into it in both dynamic and subtle ways. I usually don’t count my first visit here as one that was necessarily creative. It was simply a new place and I was excited to see all of the best features like any other tourist who found themselves overwhelmed by the immense atmosphere and sights. I realized then that I would not be able to really see everything – there was too much to see, and it is a huge area to cover in a day or two much less truly experience on an intimate level. In fact, it took a few visits (across years) for me to form my sense of the the place, to quiet the excitement at everything I saw, and to adopt a pace within it that was comfortable enough for me to see and create imagery. Perhaps that has become a great part of how I am with any place now.
